Welcome to Richard's & my 1997 CART/PPG carset for Indycar Racing II by Papryus/Sierra On-Line.

Richard & I are not the only ones striving to keep ICR2 alive. Stop by and check out The Sim Project!

Updated! Here is a completely updated carset based on photographs through the 1997 running of the Motorola 300. As we find better pictures of the individual cars throughout the year we will be posting updates to this page. Also, we will attempt to produce an up-to-date drivers2.txt file after each event. PPG97.ZIP [updated 01 August 1997] contains all of the updates through 06 June 1997 and has a drivers2.txt file through this year's June 1st running of the Miller 200. Also included is the latest X-File version of the drivers2.txt file through the U.S. 500 Presented by Toyota at Michigan July 27, 1997. Here is the README.TXT file for PPG97.ZIP.

New! SNEAK PREVIEW If you are curious as to what we are working on at the present, check out PPG97X.ZIP [updated 03 August 1997]. Joachim Boeddeker is working on creating a new dimension in carsets. He is working on making all areas of the car available for "textures". To see the progress, look at the sidepods of the #6 car or both end-plates on the rear wing on car #32. Other cars in the set have been enhanced. Unfortunately this new carset will not work with the Paintkit that comes with ICR2. To enjoy the new cars take 'em out to the track or preview them in the Driver Info window.

What's new in the update:

Richard and I would like to thank Peter Burke for his excellent photographs of the CART season. Please stop by and visit SpeedCenter for the best coverage of the CART/PPG season on the net.

Here is the Mac version [updated 11 June 1997] of the updated 1997 PPG/CART carset. Thanks to Jim Getzen for his assistance in providing this carset.

Updated! Here is the DRIVERS2.TXT constructed from race data (qualifying and fastest lap) through the running of the U.S. 500 Presented by Toyota at Michigan July 27, 1997. [updated 27 July 1997]

Updated!X-File version of the CART/PPG DRIVERS2.TXT file. I am experimenting with a new method of compiling driver skills. This approach is an attempt to counter-balance some of the weakness inherent in the AI driving in ICR2. I hope you will find this set more of a real challenge. Don't even think about leaving an opening to the car behind as you head for a tight hairpin! I personally think the AI drive better, especially in the corners/turns. You will find they will hold their lines in the turns allowing for more wheel-to-wheel battles. Give it a try. To use this file, rename it to DRIVERS2.TXT and place it in the PPG97 cars directory. Based on data compiled through the U.S. 500 Presented by Toyota at Michigan July 27, 1997. [updated 27 July 1997]
